"Apart" means at a distance from each other, either in space or time. It can also mean for something to be in pieces, to break or come apart. Ex: The cake came apart while being delivered. Ex: We've been apart from each other for five months. => separation by physical distance Ex: We graduated two years apart. = We graduated with a two-year time difference.
