What's "check off" mean?

To "check off" is similar to "tick off," it means to reduce or deduct the number of things on a list by crossing them out, either physically on a list or in one's mind. Ex: We can check off grocery shopping for today. What are we doing next? Ex: Did you check off "new bag" on your list? Ex: I love checking off things on my to-do list throughout the day.
