Is there a difference to say between "no good" like here and "not good?"

Good question! These two do mean similar things, but there is a slight difference. "No good" means that something has no use or value, whereas "not good" means that something is bad, the opposite of good. The lyrics "you're no good alone" is trying to express that he is useless on his own, that he's better when he is with his lover. Although it's not good to use "no good" to describe people, you may occasionally hear it when someone is warning against someone or criticizing that person. Ex: He's no good on his own; Jessica makes him a better person. (no good = has no use or value) Ex: This burger is not very good. It's dry and tasteless. (not good = bad)
