From what I understand, wires are used when actors or stunt men have to perform stunts in the film. It's for safety, and it helps the filmmakers create the effect they want for the film. Here it's used so that it looks like Sadie's character is levitating in the series. Ex: Superman is actually attached to a wire, but they edit out the wire in production. Ex: I had to use a wire when I did a backflip over the car.
