You can consider "spread" to be an umbrella term for many different types of spreadable jams, jellies, butters, preserves, and so on that can be eaten with bread and other foods. Fruit jam is a type of spread that is made with fruits and sugar. Similarly, fruit spread is also made with fruits but does not add any extra sugar. Other examples of popular spreads include cream cheese spreads, peanut butter, strawberry jelly/jam, Nutella, and so on.
