They have different pronunciations due to the origin of the words! In Greek, "ch" sounds were often pronounced as "K." But actually, here, "ache" is pronounced with a "K" sound because it was mistaken to be a Greek word. The words with the "ch" sounds, like chocolate, choose, or chicken, may have Old English, Germanic, or French origins. English itself was derived from many different languages! So the pronunciations aren't all the same for the same letters. Ex: I'm going to school. => "K" sound Ex: I chanted the song. => "tch" sound
