"Been around [since X]" basically means that something has existed or been active since a certain time. It's used to emphasize that something isn't new or recently occurring, that it has a history. Ex: Coronavirus has been around for centuries. Ex: Cars have been around for many years, but only recently have we started creating non-gasoline ones.
