What's the main difference between "booking" and "reservation?"

A "booking" is a record and not for a room, table, or something to be reserved. A "reservation" is putting aside something for a certain purpose. Although, they're considered synonyms and often used interchangeably. Ex: I booked the meeting room for our four o'clock meeting later. Ex: I called to make a booking. = I called to make a reservation. Ex: I made a reservation for the restaurant this weekend.
