What's "baffle" mean and is it different from "shock?"

"Baffle" is similar to "shock" since they both have reactions that are different from one's usual actions. But it's a little different. If something is "baffling," it means it is impossible to understand or comprehend. To "baffle" someone means to leave someone in a perplexed state, unable to understand something. Ex: The magic show completely baffled me. I have no idea how he did those tricks! Ex: This research paper is baffling. I'm not sure how I'll ever understand it.
