Does "dress rehearsal" mean to check the dresses that will be used in the play?

Good guess, but no! A "dress rehearsal" is a final rehearsal of a live performance. It's called "dress" because the performers were the same dress (a formal word for clothing) and use the same props that will appear during the real performance. Ex: We are having the dress rehearsal for the play soon. Ex: The dress rehearsal ended perfectly. We expect the concert will have no issues also.
