Here, "break my heart into a million pieces" is a metaphorical phrase to mean that one is suffering emotionally in a very terrible way, so much that it feels as if their heart has been split into many little pieces (it doesn't feel whole anymore). You can use this phrase when you want to say that a larger whole has been divided into many smaller pieces, and even replace "break" with another verb. Ex: The crash caused the car to break into many pieces. Ex: When he dumped me, I felt like my heart broke into a million tiny pieces. Ex: We divided the pizza into six slices.
