I recently learned a word "embellish." Does "decorate" mean the same thing as "embellish?"

Good question! They are quite similar in meaning. To "decorate" is more general than to "embellish." Embellishment is often more elaborate and detailed. It's often used with clothes. To decorate is add decorations, while to embellish is to make more beautiful and attractive. Thus, you often see decorate used to describe more general things, whereas embellish is used more commonly with things like clothing or cooking. Ex: I decorated my room with some plants and art. Ex: He embellished the dress with crystals and pearls.
