What's "alpha" mean and when's it used?

Here "alpha" means a person with a dominant role. Or, in relation to animals, since these are werewolves, a dominant animal or breed. It can be used in regards to power dynamics in a group of people, or even to describe one's personality. Ex: My mother was always the alpha at home. We all listened to her. Ex: Wolves are said to be the alphas of the jungle. Ex: I have a very alpha personality type; I can be quite dominant.
