What's "a bird on the wing" mean? Is it like there's a bird that's on top of other bird's wing?

I can see why you'd think that, but no, it's a little different! "A bird on the wing" means a bird "in flight" or a bird that is flying. Ex: I just saw a really colorful bird on the wing. Ex: When eagles are on the wing, they're easy to see.
