Is there any difference between "dry up" and "shut up"?

"Dry up" and "shut up" have the same meaning, but "shut up" is common, while "dry up" is almost never used. "Dry up" is more commonly used in British English. That being said, both phrases are informal and considered rude, so I do not recommend using them.
