Kiwi asks…

Is it wrong if I say "you got no legs"?

Answer from a Native speaker

teacher

Rebecca

It would be fine to say "you got no legs" in a very casual conversation, however, it is technically incorrect grammar to say this. However, it is also incorrect grammar to say "you ain't got no legs", especially because this is a double negative. The correct thing to say here is "you don't have legs", but many English speakers use the other forms in situations of casual conversation. Ex: I've got no money to spend. Ex: He ain't got a job.
