Kiwi asks…

Does "rumble" mean "fight"? What is the difference between "rumble" and "fight"?

Answer from a Native speaker

Rebecca

Yes! Rumble in this scenario means "fight." The phrase "Let's get ready to rumble" is a famous catchphrase from the professional boxing and wrestling announcer Michael Buffer. As you may know, boxing and wrestling are types of fighting. "Rumble" and "fight" are synonymous with one another. There isn't a difference between these two words if they are used in this kind of context. Ex: There is going to be a fight/rumble outside! Ex: The opposing gangs got into a dangerous rumble/fight.
