Kiwi asks…
What does "visa" mean?
Answer from a Native speaker

A "visa" is a type of entry permit that allows people to enter a country of which they are not a citizen (or in some cases, a permanent resident). For example, in order to do sightseeing in America as a foreigner, you would need a tourist visa. There are different types of visas depending on the purpose for your visit, and each visa type has different application requirements. Some countries allow visa-free travel, so no extra documents are needed to enter its borders. For example, Americans and Canadians are able to enter many countries in Europe without a visa. Ex: I am applying for an American work visa. Ex: It takes over six months for student visas here to be approved.
