To "care about someone" means that you care about what happens to someone because you have emotional feelings for them. It is similar to "loving someone", although "care" is usually less strong, and just means that you are concerned about someone because you have a feeling of love or affection for them. Ex: She always sends me letters in the mail. She really cares about me. Ex: I call my parents every week because I care about them. Ex: Parents punish their children because they care about them.
