Kiwi asks…

What does “pet peeve” mean?

Answer from a Native speaker

teacher

Rebecca

A "pet peeve" is an action that one person does that always bothers another person. For example, a pet peeve of mine is dirty dishes all over the kitchen. I absolutely hate when there are dirty dishes. However, my boyfriend always leaves dirty dishes around the kitchen and never washes them. It really annoys me. A pet peeve can be pretty much anything. Some people have a pet peeve of people chewing their food with their mouth open, not making the bed, dirty laundry on the floor, etc. Here are some example sentences: Ex: Brenda's pet peeve is when her customers toss their money at her. Ex: John's biggest pet peeve is furniture that isn't dusted.
