What does "getting high" mean? In what circumstances could I use it?

To "get high" means to become intoxicated by drugs or other substances. You can use it in reference to people who are intoxicated by drugs or to the activity itself of becoming intoxicated by drugs. Ex: When I was young, all I cared about was getting high and drunk. Ex: They got high and trashed the place. => trashed = made it a mess
