"Lifeline" in this scenario means something that is considered extremely important to maintain quality of life or protection. In this scenario, Uber is staying in business because of food deliveries; these food deliveries are their lifeline. Ex: Her cellphone is her lifeline. She doesn't leave home without it. Ex: The internet has been a lifeline for many during this pandemic.
