In the same way relationships and people affect you outside of work, they still affect you at work. Relationships can have mental and physical effects on a person, and having good relationships means that it's more likely that your mental and physical health is good. In a typical 7 to 8-hour work day, work is the majority of your waking time, so a better work environment means that you'd feel better, including communicating with people.
