For something to "make an impression" means to be memorable or moving in some way. Steve Jobs has used this expression to state that the quote he read when he was 17 "made an impression" on him, or was particularly memorable, and affected how he lived his life from that moment forward. Ex: My new teacher is kind and friendly. He made a good impression on me. Ex: Michelle Obama's biography made an impression on me. I was motivated to pursue my goals after reading it.
