"If I were" and "if I was", what's the difference between those two?
"If I were" is used in hypothetical situations and things that contradict facts. This is called the subjunctive mood because it is discussing imaginary and unreal situations that have not happened and probably will not happen. Ex: If I were a millionaire, I would buy my own private jet. Ex: If I were a celebrity, I would want to be in action films. Ex: If I were a scientist, I would find a cure for cancer. "If I was" is used for things that may have occurred in the past or currently. This is called the indicative mood because it is discussing real life situations and scenarios. Ex: If I was being mean to you, I'm really sorry. Ex: If I was ever in an accident I don't know what I'd do. Ex: If I was going to the party I would have told you already.
