Il but onequi significa la stessa cosa di only one, ma aggiunge più drammaticità alla conversazione! Tuttavia, di solito è usato nel senso di except for. Esempio: There are but two activities we haven't done yet. = We've done all the activities except for two so far. = There are only two activities we haven't done yet. (Ci sono solo due attività che non abbiamo ancora fatto.) Esempio: There is but one thing I'd like to say to you... (C'è solo una cosa che voglio dirti...)
