Yes, there is! Under means something is directly below or under another. Underneath means something is covered by something else, or beneath it. Although sometimes they are used interchangeably. Ex: Your shoes are underneath the table. = Your shoes are under the table. Ex: My phone was underneath my book. Ex: The clock hangs just under the painting.
