"Up to code" is a term that is used to upgrade or renovate something that meets building code laws in the United States. Buildings need to meet certain standards and if they do not meet these standards, the person who owns the building could get into a lot of trouble. This includes the building structure itself, the plumbing inside the building, the electrical wiring in the building, the fire alarms, etc.
