What does "not a word" mean? and in what situation could I use it? Could you give me some examples?

"Not a word" means don't say anything about a person or subject to someone else. You can use this when you don't want someone to discuss a certain person or event with another person. If someone asks you if you said something to someone else and you say "not a word," you are telling that person that you haven't said anything. A: Did you tell him that I had a crush on him? B: No! Not a word. A: I can't wait for Linda's surprise birthday party! You didn't say anything to her, did you? B: Not a word. She's going to be so surprised! Ex: Not a word of this to anyone! I don't want us to get in trouble.
