「few」與「not many」皆表示「不多」的意思。「a few」與「some」皆表示「一些」的意思。另外，「few」帶有否定語氣，「a few」帶有肯定語氣，可依據上下文來判斷其意思。在口語對話中，若於句子開頭使用「a few」，有時會省略「a」。 例：In our school, few people are interested in the idea of a camping trip.（在我們學校，很少人對參加露營感興趣。）=>感興趣的人不多 = In our school, a few people are interested in the idea of a camping trip. （在我們學校，不少人對參加露營感興趣。）=> 感興趣的人多 例： Few things you should know: the cafe opens at ten, so be here at nine. （有幾件事你應該要知道：咖啡廳十點開門，請你九點到這裡。） =>省略「a」 例：There are very few supplies in the cupboard.（櫥櫃中的日用品很少。） => 日用品不多 = There are a few supplies in the cupboard. （櫥櫃中的還有一些日用品。）=> 有一些日用品
