I only know of "press" as a verb to mean similarly to push, but what's it mean here?

Here, "press" means reports, articles, and media released in news, magazines, and social media. The term comes from "printing presses" originally used to publish these articles and newspapers back in the day! Ex: The school has been getting some good press from the sports competitions. Ex: The band was getting bad press after the scandal.
