"Open-ended" just means that there is an open ending - there is no fixed/set ending, so the ending becomes whatever you imagine/want it to be. For example, some movies or books may be open-ended to allow the viewer or reader to imagine for themselves how the story ends. Ex: I wrote an open ending for my book because I wanted readers to interpret the story in their own way. Ex: The video game was designed to be open-ended, to allow for diverse interpretations.
