"Jury duty" in the USA is the obligation to act as a jury member in court. So US citizens are called to serve as part of the jury, but they may not have to be a part of the jury after jury questioning or for another legitimate reason. The role of a jury member is to hear the evidence and be a part of giving a verdict. Ex: I have jury duty next week. Ex: I'm getting a medical letter to excuse myself from jury duty.
