When we hold seats for someone, it means that we reserve a place for them to sit. In some cinemas, the seats are not reserved, and anybody can sit anywhere. To make sure that we can find a seat with our friends, we can ask them to save seats for us. Ex: Save a seat for me at the table, please. = Please keep a seat reserved for me at the table. Ex: Sorry, you can't sit here. I'm saving this seat for a friend. = Sorry, you can't sit here. I'm keeping this seat reserved for my friend.
