Good question! The difference is that "long" is neutral in meaning and can refer to something positive or negative depending on how you use it. Ex: Why is this train ride taking so long? Ex: He has a long list of academic achievements. On the other hand, "wordy" is always used in a negative way. It's used to say that something has too many words, that it's unnecessarily long. Ex: This book is too wordy. I stopped reading before I could finish. Ex: He's very wordy, he always has too much to say.
