Within the context of saying profanities, "cursing" and "swearing" mean the same thing! Otherwise, the difference is that to "curse" is when you say something against someone - to damn or punish them. To "swear" can mean to make a promise or oath. Ex: Stop cursing at the computer game, Tim! = Stop swearing at the computer game, Tim! Ex: I curse the person who stole from me. Ex: I swear, I'll never do it again.
