"Nor" is used when there are two negative possibilities mentioned in a sentence (i.e. "not" is used at the beginning of the sentence, which indicates that the sentence has two negative alternatives). "Nor" is always used in the negative, and it's also often used with "neither." Ex: I am not tall, nor am I short. Ex: I am neither tall nor short.
