What's the main difference between "convince" and "persuade"? Or are they perfectly interchangeable?

There is a slight difference! To convince someone means to get them to believe that what you are saying is true (regardless of whether it is or not). To persuade someone means to cause someone to do something through logic or reasoning. For example, you can convince someone that the earth is actually flat and not round (the action occurs in the mind). You can persuade someone to accompany you to a party that they originally didn't want to go to (the action occurs in reality). Ex: I am convinced that the pandemic will end in a year. Ex: My sister persuaded me to go on vacation with her to Spain.
