"Advertisement" is a general term that describes any paid promotion a company does with the intention of attracting customers. An "advertisement" can be done in any form such as on social media, in a magazine, on TV, etc. A "commercial" is specifically an advertisement that is aired on TV or the radio, and last about 10-30 seconds. "Commercials" usually interrupt a TV or radio show. Ex: I saw an advertisement for makeup on Instagram. Ex: I wish there were less commercials during my favorite show.
