The words 'other' and 'another' practically mean the same thing. The only difference between the two words is that unlike 'other', 'another' is used with singular nouns. Ex: She is going to the mall with another friend. (friend is singular) Ex: She is going to the mall with other friends. (friend is plural) 'The other' is used when we are talking about one or two items of the same type. Unlike 'another', You can add 'the' (definite article) or a pronoun in front of 'other' Ex: Let's buy the other book. Ex: Did you go to the other cafe?
