They are described to be extremely ugly, human-like giants that enjoy eating people, especially babies and children. Myths and legends are often meant to teach a lesson or story, so it is theorized that stories involving ogres like "Jack and the Beanstalk" are meant to teach children that robbery and murder are wrong.
