An oven is an enclosed space that generates heat, with an opening to place food into it. Whereas a "stove" is an external cooker that you usually put pots or pans on. It is typical for a cooker to have a "stove" on top of an "oven". So you could bake a cake in the oven and stir fry some food on top. This type of "stove" is what you would call a "stove-top". They can also be separate appliances. Ex: Can you get the cake out of the oven before it burns? Ex: You left the stove on, honey! The food is stuck to the bottom of the pan now. Ex: Hey, dad! Can we make some pancakes on the stove-top?
