Saying "the weld" and saying "the welds", are they different?

Not really. "Weld" and "welds" are the same thing. "Weld" means one and "welds" means more than one. The term "weld" refers to welding, which as you may already know is when you use high amounts of heat to fuse things together, mainly metal. If you say "weld" it just means that only one part of something has been welded. When he says "welds on the intake" he is referring to multiple parts that have been fused together by a high heat on the intake (the part that allows air into the car). Ex: He had to weld the metal together in order to fix the door. Ex: She took a welding class in college. Ex: Look at all the welds on this bike. It must have been extremely damaged before.
