"Leading up to something" means the time before an event, time, or activity happens. As in, "up to the moment" of the event. This is said when one or more things happen before an event, in preparation for it, or if you have certain feelings before an event occurs. It's usually said at the beginning of a sentence as background information and context. Ex: Leading up to the wedding, I was really nervous. Ex: Hello class! Since we're leading up to exams, there are a few points we need to learn. Ex: Leading up to the party, so many things went wrong! We had to find a new DJ for the party. Ex: In the days leading up to Christmas, I was so excited that I went and bought so many Christmas decorations!
