As a metaphor, what does the word "lane" imply in this context?

This is a slang expression. When someone says that they're "in their own lane," it means that they're living their own life and not paying attention to the business of others. You might hear others say "stay in your own lane," and this does not just refer to driving! It means for one to mind their own business. Ex: You need to stay in your own lane. Stop worrying about me. Ex: My life is great because I stay in my own lane. I live a stress-free life.
