There is no "s" at the end of children because "children" is already plural; it's an irregular noun. It doesn't follow normal noun conjugation patterns. English, as you may already know, has many rules when it comes to making a noun plural. Most of the time, you add an "s" or "es" to the end of the noun to make it plural, but of course there are many exceptions. Ex: The children play in the park. [child - children] Ex: She has a garden full of tomatoes [tomato - tomatoes] Ex: There are millions of cities. [city - cities] Ex: Geese fly south for the winter. [goose - geese]
