The difference is size! "Pigeons" are larger than "doves". It is not a sexual dimorphism. They are two different species of birds that belong to the same family. They often get confused by people. Myself included! "Doves" are more romanticised than "pigeons", as they are often portrayed in pictures as small white birds that carry letters or get released on wedding days. The biblical story "Noah's ark" mentions a "dove", so sometimes they are related to that in symbolism. Whereas "pigeons" are considered annoying birds in parks or cities. Ex: I went to the park the other day and the pigeons were trying to eat my sandwich! Ex: The doves at Mark's wedding were absolutely beautiful.
