I thought capes were supposed to symbolize superheroes, but it seems that there's a "no cape" meme in the United States. Could you please tell me why? Is it because the existence of a cape is too much a cliche?

This is such a fun question! The "no cape" meme originates from "The Incredibles" movie. This movie features a different type of Super-Hero than the common ones like "Superman" or "Batman" who both wear capes. In "The Incredibles" they make a joke saying that capes or not practical. They can get caught in engines and don't look nice. You're right. They also say it's cliche! However, if you were to dress up as a Super-Hero for a party, a defining factor would be wearing a cape. Ex: All was well, another day saved, when… his cape snagged on a missile fin. => Line from "The Incredibles" Ex: Remember your cape for the costume party Henry! You won't be a Super-Hero without one.
