When we're talking about returning to or reminiscing about a time or place generally, you can use "to." Ex: I want to go back to New York. I miss it a lot. Ex: Can we go back to our high school days? Life was easier then. When you are talking about an incident or event that happened in a specific year, you can use "in." Ex: Back in '93, my parents had my twin brothers. Ex: I graduated from university back in 2000.
