To "become aware of [something]" means to be conscious of it. You know it exists and have knowledge of it. It also has the slight nuance of paying attention to it and noticing it. The "become" means that at some point, you weren't aware of it, but now you are. Ex: I'm aware that I need to be faster when I compete in games, but it's challenging. Ex: I've become more aware of environmental problems, so now I make sure I use reusable items. Ex: She became aware of how she was perceived in the media and stopped making music.
